Instagram Fonts and Name Style

Instagram allows up to 150 characters in a bio.

44 styles. App compatibility: not tested yet. Screen readers may read styled letters one by one.

Instagram has no font setting for your name, bio or captions, so stylish Instagram fonts are Unicode characters you paste into those fields. Reels and Stories are different: they have their own text styles inside the editor.

Choose the field above. The bio counter uses the limit Instagram publishes: up to 150 characters.

Can you change the font of your Instagram bio or name?

Not inside the app. The profile fields have no font menu. You can paste styled text from this page into your name, bio and captions, and it shows the same way on other people's phones that have the characters.

Why the username field refuses styled text

The username is the @handle in your profile link. Instagram accepts letters, numbers, periods and underscores there, so bold or cursive letters will not save. Put the stylish version in the Name field, which is shown above your bio and is separate from the username.

Fitting your bio in 150 characters

Instagram says a bio can have up to 150 characters, and spaces, emoji and line breaks take room too. Styled letters can count as more than one character in some apps, so check the counter here and the count Instagram shows before you save. Ready-made bios that fit are on the Instagram bio ideas page.

A stylish name can be harder to find

People who search Instagram for your plain name may not find a fully styled name, because the letters are different characters. Many people keep the username plain and style only part of the name, or add the plain name in the bio.

Questions

Does Instagram have a font option?

In Reels and Stories, yes: the text tool there has its own styles. For your profile name, bio and captions, no. Those fields take plain text, which is why people paste Unicode styles.

Why do some Instagram fonts show as boxes?

The phone viewing your profile has no font for those characters. Bold, italic and cursive styles show on most phones; rare sets show as boxes more often.

How do I add line breaks in my Instagram bio?

Type the bio with line breaks in the box above, copy it, and paste it into the bio field. Line breaks count toward the 150 characters.
