Small text comes in three Unicode sets: small caps (ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴄᴀᴘꜱ), superscript (ˢᵘᵖᵉʳ) and subscript (ₛᵤᵦ). None of them covers every letter, so some letters stay normal size.
Subscript is the most limited: Unicode has no subscript b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y or z. Superscript has every letter except q, which exists only in a recent block that few phones display.
Subscript in WhatsApp
WhatsApp has no subscript or superscript formatting. Paste the characters from this page: numbers are the safest (H₂O, x²), letters only where Unicode has them.
Small caps
Small caps uses phonetic letters that look like small capitals. There is no small capital x, so x stays as it is, and q uses ǫ, the closest shape.
Questions
How do I write H2O with a small 2?
Type H2O above and copy the Subscript result: H₂O. Digits 0 to 9 all have subscript and superscript forms.
Why do some letters stay big?
Unicode never added small versions of those letters. The generator keeps the normal letter rather than putting in a different character.
