WhatsApp Text Style

WhatsApp already formats bold, italic, strikethrough and monospace in messages: type the symbols below around your text, or tap a button. For your name, about and status, jump to stylish fonts.

WhatsApp formatting symbols

Select a word, tap a button, then copy and paste into WhatsApp. The symbols turn into formatting when you send.

Stylish fonts for your WhatsApp name and status

44 styles. App compatibility: not tested yet. Screen readers may read styled letters one by one.

For your WhatsApp name, about and status, where those symbols do nothing, use the stylish fonts in the generator below. They are Unicode letters and keep their look anywhere.

Can you highlight text in WhatsApp?

To make a word stand out, use bold: *word*. WhatsApp has no background highlight colour, no underline and no text colour in messages. If you need an underline, the Underline style below adds a line under each letter as Unicode.

Subscript and superscript in WhatsApp

WhatsApp has no subscript or superscript formatting. Paste the characters instead: H₂O, x², 10⁵. Digits always work; only some letters exist, listed on the small text page.

Writing a long paragraph

Use WhatsApp's own lists for structure: start lines with "* " or "- " for bullets, or "1. " for numbers. Keep stylish fonts for a heading line, because long styled paragraphs are hard to read and screen readers read them letter by letter.
