Unicode has no bold, italic or cursive copies of Tamil letters, so a Tamil name is styled with what does paste as text: symbol frames such as ༄ᶦᶰᵈ᭄✿தமிழ்࿐ or ꧁•தமிழ்•꧂, and symbols between letters such as த★மி★ழ். Letters with vowel signs stay joined because the symbols go between complete letters.
If you write your name in English letters, the cursive, gothic, bold and small caps styles appear in the same list.
Why underline and strikethrough are not offered for Tamil
Underline, strikethrough and glitch add a combining mark from the Latin block of Unicode to every letter, and Tamil fonts usually do not include it, so the letters can show as boxes. Symbols between letters avoid that.
Tamil fonts as text or as an image
Design apps draw Tamil fonts into images. For a WhatsApp name or an Instagram bio you need text, and the options are the ones on this page.
Questions
Can I make Tamil text bold in WhatsApp?
Inside a message, yes: wrap it in asterisks and WhatsApp makes it bold. In your WhatsApp name there is no bold for Tamil.
Can I use a Tamil name in my Instagram username?
No. Instagram usernames take only English letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Use the Name field or your bio.
